More WOH News

Sources close to World of Hurt Wrestling promoters have provided a little more info regarding matches going down on August 10 at the High School in Glens Falls, NY.

Last night on WrestlefudgeTV, we talked about Hacksaw vs Vince Beach... We knew there would also be a six man tag cage match involving The Alden Brothers and a mystery opponent taking on Danger, Jeff Starr, and another mystery opponent.

Our source has confirmed that Jim Tanner will join Starr and Danger while Swinger Sindusky will tag up with Shane Alden and brother, Eric "Virus" Alden.

In another Wrestlefudge Exclusive, we now know that Hoss will challenge for the WOH Championship, taking on Punk. These two men were the last two in the ring back at May's champ-crowning battle royale. Hoss walked through the curtain flipping Punk the bird and you KNEW this story wasn't finished. Should be a hard hitting affair.

Shaping up to be a fun show! Tickets are reportedly going fast! So make it happen!

IYFW Presents "Can't Tread on Us" PREVIEW/PREDICTIONS

In a few short days, In Your Face Wrestling drops their ring inside the Whitehall Armory and Athletic Club to put on what we are expecting to be a VERY fun evening of wrestling action! This being the second of four consecutively scheduled outings in this particular venue for IYFW, there are hopes that crowd attendance spikes a bit to match the heat of the summer! Four really solid matches have been signed and there is some additional quality intrigue leading into the show. Let's take a quick look at what *I* am expecting to see this Saturday night!

First Time Ever
"Mighty" Fronz Roddy vs "The Shaft" Bobby Ocean
Ohhhh, snap! Bobby O locks horns with one of the mightiest performers on the independent level. Yes, we at the 'fudge have named Mr.Ocean the Hardest Working Man in Independent Wrestling but has he faced a competitor as tenacious, as menacing, as arrogant as The Mighty One? Both of these men locked up with former WWE superstars back at the Amsterdam show and both of them watched their opponents arm get raised on that night. This is an opportunity for BOTH men to prove to the locker room, and to themselves, that they are still the upper echelon in our area. Big doings. Big deal. I'm pumped. Winner of this match could find themselves in an already crowded IYFW title hunt.
Paul's Prediction: No Contest

Special Attraction Match
Good Lord Willing vs Ricky "Don't Call Me Rickety" Rockett
Wow. I'd like to shake the hand of whoever came up with this pairing. Truly. The fans in Whitehall got a taste of this match last month when these two brawled outside the ring during the heated six man show opener and I am expecting more of the same. Good Lord Willing may not be the most agile, the most athletic, nimble, graceful, physically impressive member of the In Your Face roster... But few on that same roster can control the crowd like the Good Lord. With 3 golden words, he has you. And you want to see him get destroyed. Enter: the Rockett. A young wrestler on the slow and steady rise who would LOVE to come out of this show with a big win over a local legend. Again; like the Lord, the Rockett brings something entirely different to the table and is genuinely fun to watch. This will not be a five star classic. But it will very likely be match of the night.
Paul's Prediction: Rickety Rockett

Six Man Lumberjack Tag Team Contest
Blood Money vs The Irish Uprising
you like that name for Liam, Jamar, and Ricky? Just came to me. I dig it. Anywho... A lot of story to this match. Here's the cliff note version; Scarsdale has bought two solid grapplers to aid him in his quest for IYF gold. Coleman and de Sade will join him as the hungriest, most dangerous trio in IYFW take on the makeshift alliance of Liam McFerrin - reigning IYFW New Breed Champion - and former tag champs, the Uprising. Oh yeah. It's a lumberjack match, too. That should be a sight to behold. Hopefully no one blocks my view of the match, heh. I expect another fun effort from these six and a late or post match appearance by former Blood Money member Michael Anthony (along with two other dudes, but I'll get to that later).
Paul's Prediction: Blood Money

IYFW Championship Rematch
Pierre "The Beast" Vachon vs "Wrestlefudge's Favorite FatKid" Big Vigo
The first IYFW show I attended was "Defy the Odds" back in April 2011. The first (and really only) feud that I left that building feeling any sense of attachment to was Vigo/Vachon; they had interfered in each others matches that night and we said to be "purposely kept apart". It made for some cool drama and has always stuck with me. As the story goes, Vigo would go on to capture the IYFW Championship back at last years Coronation Cup, hold it through the summer, only to eventually lose it to Vachon after eating a white-hot fireball to the grill. A few minor skirmishes since then, but no real attempt by Vigo to get that coveted gold back -- until now. Vachon, since winning the belt, has been absolutely unstoppable. His mandible claw finisher had proven to be the single most effective submission hold in the promotion and has taken out EVERY wrestler who has tasted it. EVERY. Is Vigo the one? Can he save In Your Face Wrestling from the leather-clad clutches of The Beast? We will find out Saturday.
Paul's Prediction: Vigo

Also confirmed for the show:
The Killer Steves -- awesome! Love these guys! Fun tandem.
Roman Dominguez -- will he insert himself back in the title scene? Almost certainly.
Drake Evans -- will HE? We will see. The most interesting aspect of our recent interview with Maxx Burton on an equally recent edition of WrestlefudgeTV was his opinion that Evans should "let [the IYFW Championship] go". I don't think there's any quit in Drake Evans, myself.
CJ Scott -- said to be in action, and you can expect to see another family reunion in Whitehall.
Michael Anthony and Pure Dynamite -- ok, not CONFIRMED together, but I am making an assumption here. These three are fucking gold.

Unannounced Talent I WANT to See:
JP Black -- the man is clearly out of retirement. Love to see more from him.
Damon Ravage -- ahem.
Shiloh Robinson -- I didn't care for how he was snubbed in a recent promo. Give the kid the ball!
Ian Daniels -- last months birthday boy is in desperate need of a win. This weekend, maybe?

Like I said... Really psyched for the show. BE THERE! Support independent wrestling! Worth the drive! Deserving of your time! Hope to see you there! Somebody, please, buy me a beer.

Around the Circuit: Quick Notes

Things are mostly quiet (unfortunately) in the local (and beyond) indy scene. Sucks to be us. However, there is still some action out there to pick up on!

- firstly... Advance ticket sales for CTWE's 4th Anniversary show on August 18th (Bethany, CT) have reportedly been pretty strong! Front row seats sold out in just 7 days with a pretty solid amount of General Admission tickets sold as well. Promotion officials have politely advised their Facebook fans and Twitter followers to order tickets NOW if they want them because they are expecting a sell out event well before the day of the show, an exciting first for the young, growing promotion. These guys clearly have the formula down: high quality wrestling featuring high quality performers, proper use of social media and taking full advantage of free, simple Internet services, free online distribution of their events via the Internet to get the word out quickly and effectively, strong, stable roster highlighted by interesting, "big(ger) name" outside talent sprinkled here and there, and by just plain kicking ass in all areas. Seriously. Independent promoters who haven't SHOULD take notice, nationwide. They keep it simple and, above all else, are masters at presenting an enjoyable product. Be sure to check them out if you haven't. And get those tickets, too! Going to be a great show.

- In Your Face Wrestling returns to Whitehall, NY this Saturday night for "Can't Tread on Us"! This should be a pretty great show that offers something for everyone! I'm hoping to have our usual "PREVIEW/PREDICTIONS" post up in the coming days. Between the obligatory brutality of Vigo/Vachon, the athleticism and entertainment value of Roddy/Ocean, the pure spectacle and hilarity of Willing/Rockett, and the chaos and mayhem of the Six Man Lumberjack Tag match... Seriously. This is going to be a fucking blast. Their first effort in Whitehall last month drew somewhat disappointingly despite a very fun show that delivered. I'm hoping for a bigger turn out - and they deserve it! Make the trip, ya schlubs! I have a feeling it's going to be a crazy summer In Your Face and you should be a part of it, if you can! Pre-order your tickets here!

- looks like the details of the August 10th World of Hurt show - Hacksaw Homecoming - in Glens Falls, NY have been slightly revised. Apparently, they are expecting a larger turnout than their May REUNION show at the Park Street Theatre and have announced they are moving the event to Glens Falls High School. In addition, we already knew this show would feature a steel cage match... Now we know it will be a steel cage TAG match. According to the recently updated event poster, it appears that Jeff Starr and Danger will be reprising their team of "Sex and Violence" to take on the Alden Brothers, Shane and Eric. I have high expectations for this match, given the effort put forth from all four men back in May. Other things I look forward to at this show include yet are not at all limited to: Pure Dynamite stealing the show, some surprise IYF talent making cameos, and an appearance, in some capacity, from Michael Anthony. On top of all of that, I'm really just interested to see where this promotion goes from here. We know they are cooperating with Ultimate Wrestling to help in putting the show on, but I'm curious if there is a long term plan on place. Oh. And, yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing Hacksaw in action, too! Naturally. Should be a cool moment.

- the recent face turn of CTWE's new Heavyweight Champion, Vladimir Joseph, has really got me thinking about the power of a well executed, well timed surprise turn. No one saw his coming, but in the setting and the circumstances it absolutely worked. It gets a buzz. It's a happening. I look at a promotion like IYFW and my armchair fantasy booker rears his all-too-ugly head and I start thinking about which performer a solid turn (either way) could benefit... Expect a future column on this subject, heh heh.

World of Hurt Announces Another Show

Following a successful reunion show back in May, the people behind this rejuvenated promotion have announced another event, again in the Park Street Theatre. On Friday, August 10th, World of Hurt returns... Again. And this time they're bringing in the local big guns.

Hacksaw Jim Duggan makes his in-ring return to his home town of Glens Falls, NY, appearing in the ring there for the first time in a decade (their fact, not mine... Has it really been that long?). Pretty cool, eh? On top of the usual WOH crowd (Danger, Jeff Starr, Hoss, Bert Williams, Bathory, Punk, etc) you can expect a handful of other In Your Face talent to appear. Hacksaw on the card is certainly a nice novelty draw for this event! I've always enjoyed that guy. The show in May was a packed (hot) house... I imagine this one will follow suit!

Further info on the show can be found on their FB event page and we will definitely be talking about what this means for local wrestling on tonight's WrestlefudgeTV.

IYFW Brawl in Whitehall PREVIEW/PREDICTIONS

This Saturday night, In Your Face Wrestling makes it's debut in Whitehall, NY - the first of 4 announced consecutive events in the Whitehall Athletic Club. When we talked to Drake Evans last week on WrestlefudgeTV, he admitted that this was a bit of a gamble for the promotion. A show more than an hour north of the BACC in Ballston Spa, a venue that has quietly become the defacto In Your Face Arena, has it's risks but banking on creating immediate, new repeat customers in a brand new market is riskier. However... It is worth noting that Whitehall is just a stones throw from Rutland, VT (where the promotion has its roots) and will likely (hopefully) draw in some of those old fans. In addition, the success of the Memories, Moments, and Mayhem event as well as the impressive turnout for the World of Hurt Wrestling REUNION show in Glens Falls has created the air of a bit of an indy renaissance in the area that IYFW is clearly capitalizing on (and whispers of other promoters organizing future local shows abound).

Don't misunderstand me -- this is not all doom and gloom for IYFW, but I *do* know a handful of regular fans south of Albany that aren't interested in making the drive (the lazy, listless bastards!) and won't be coming. However... You can always count on the Wrestlefudge Contingent when it comes to IYFW and we are excited about the Whitehall shows as well as their impressively ambitious Summer schedule!

Let's take the "Brawl", for example...

Four matches announced (yeah, I'm assuming that the teased Vinyer/Wolf bout will go down) and some interesting subtext in the background. First and foremost, there's the Vigo/Evans/Dominguez cluster-F lingering just on the peripheral of the IYFW Championship title scene. I love all of these guys, along with Vachon, but this whole feud needs some kind of closure. Vachon has been positioned well above just about everyone in the promotion since last October (which is why I REALLY dig his opponent on this card) and, to be truthful, the rest of the roster has kind of suffered in my opinion. There needs to be some closure OR if a guy like Evans isn't going to be Champion, he needs to be as far away from the champ (or the hunt) as possible to keep it fresh and to keep him viable (using him as the prime example). I know I'm kind of rambling, but this has been gnawing at me for a while. On the last INTERFACE, Joey made it clear that IYFW was going the "Keep These Three Guys Apart" storyline route, which made the Vachon/Vigo feud last year a little more interesting, but it's also one of those things the IYFaithful have seen before. Recently. Speaking of Evans...

Drake Evans vs "MegaStar" Michael Monroe
I am expecting a really good match from these two! Monroe is coming off a fun little series with the Northern Studd that was capped off with a tag loss at MMM in May and Drake is Drake. As good as Monroe has been at the last few IYFW shows, he hasn't captured the energy and spirit that he seemed to have in the ring when paired with former tag partner, Adam Badger. Hoping to see him come alive in Whitehall against a guy that has a solid match with anyone in Evans.
Paul's Prediction: DRAKE EVANS

"The Wolf" CJ Scott vs Foxx Vinyer
IYFW is billing this feud as stemming from the In Your Face Rumble last month... But let's be honest. This is clearly a result of the last episode of WrestlefudgeTV where Foxx Vinyer called in and "called out" CJ Scott. The Wolf vs the Fox will be interesting! Both of these guys are slick in the ring and have something to prove. Scott has had a tenuous relationship with IYFW of late and wants to show the "office" and the fans that he is as good as he knows he is. We at the 'fudge break his balls a lot, but it's honestly out of respect. This is actually a landmark match for Vinyer in Ballston Spa. This will be Vinyer's first singles match in IYFW and against a solid opponent. Guessing he'll work babyface? Again... Really looking forward to this match and am expecting a Scott promo response to Vinyer before Saturday night. Wondering if we might see an appearance from Syanide? He was all over CJ in the Rumble and we all know their history. Nudge-nudge.
Paul's Prediction: CJ SCOTT

IYFW Tag Team Championship
Blood Money vs The Uprising (c)
The story here is simple. Blood Money has earned a tag title shot... But which members of Blood Money are going to challenge for the coveted straps? Scott Scarsdale, Michael Anthony, Robert L. Coleman and even Guillaume de Sade will be in the building! We know that Anthony is out of the running... I'm expecting one of the two to be Scarsdale. Obviously, you can expect to see another stellar performance out of Justice and Williams. Come on.

...come on.
Paul's Prediction: BLOOD MONEY

IYFW Championship
Pierre "The Beast" Vachon vs Nocturne
This will be awesome. As stated earlier, Vachon has been built up as a beast both in fact and in name. He has beat every name contender set before him and his Mandible Claw has established itself as a dangerous match-winner. WAY excited to see Nocturne pitted against him here. Noc is such an important part of this area's indy scene and this is a nice nod to him. Obviously, he isn't a guy that one might see as an IYFW big title contender, but he absolutely brings something new and fresh to the table. In September, Nocturne will be competing at WrestleJam 9 with his very career on the line. Is this his big chance to walk in with some gold? I would personally LOVE it. Will it happen? I don't expect it to, sadly.
Paul's Prediction: PIERRE VACHON

Make the trip to see this show! IYFW has been on a roll and we have to assume it will continue! I hope the citizens of Whitehall have been warned about what is coming their way. It's going to be a HOT summer and it really begins this Saturday night!

And, hey... Where's Fronz?

VIDEO: Michael Anthony Injury/Aftermath

UPDATE: Michael Anthony is "Fine", Makes Startling Announcement

Late last night, Michael Anthony took to Facebook to both thank his fans and friends for their concern as well as to assure them that he was alright. He also dropped quite a bomb.

"All scans are fine... I'm sorry to announce that was my last match."

As disappointing as that last line is, we here at wrestlefudge are just glad to hear that the man is healthy and in one piece. Those of you that were at the Park Street Theatre last night KNOW how scary a moment that was.

We will have Michael Anthony on the phone TOMORROW NIGHT on our BLOGCAST to talk about last nights WOHW Reunion show, the scary injury, and what the future holds for one of the most entertaining guys in the northeast today. Don't miss it!

Wrestler Injured at World of Hurt REUNION Show

Friend of the 'fudge, talented up and comer, and SOLID dude, "Shakeweight Master" Michael Anthony sustained an injury at the conclusion of a hard hitting match with "Dark Pony" JP Black. From where we sat, it appeared he landed wrong on his neck and head taking an overhead belly to belly suplex. There was an immediate pinfall win for JP and immediate concern felt in the room. Event officials quickly communicated the situation to the back and action was taken. He was removed from the ring by members of the Glens Falls Fire Dept. and taken to a nearby hospital. Very scary stuff. The air was taken out of an already stuffy and hot venue and shit had quite suddenly gotten all too real.

Anthony, who is a regular in promotions like IYFW and SAW, is one of the most memorable performers I have seen live in the ring. One of the most entertaining. Anywhere. Be it WWE, TNA, or the lowest tier of the indies; Michael Anthony is fucking gold in absolutely everything he does. A ton of fun to watch, whether you cheer him or boo him... whether its oversized sunglasses or shakeweights. Fucking gold.

As he was taken from the venue, he received a heartfelt ovation from the crowd before giving us all a thumbs up. I applaud the people and the fans in attendance for how this was handled. Professionals.

Obviously our thoughts and prayers are with Michael Anthony. We hope he is ok.

IYFW "M, M, and M" Review / BLOGCAST UPDATE

Hey all! A crazy weekend spilled over into a crazier week! Friday on my way to Amsterdam the transmission on my precious Honda Civic (the Cadillac of Hondas) completely shit it's quite literal bed. Not cool. But the SHOW MUST GO ON!

We rocked a breakneck, extremely fun but almost exhausting two hour podcast from the America's Best Value Inn as the IYFW ring crew set up the ring and the venue came together. (you can find each segment, and some COOL pictures, of the aforementioned podcast on our Facebook page.) Our guests (including Michael Anthony, Adam Badger, Nocturne, Roman Dominguez, Big Vigo, CJ Scott, Referee Dan Roberts, Fronz Roddy, the Rickety Rockett, and a VERY intense exchange between Pierre Vachon and Bobby Ocean). Definitely had a blast at IYFW's "Memories, Moments, and Mayhem"; saw some legends, heroes, and villains of the business in action and/or in person, the ring break, the crew amazingly recover, great matches, and more. Memories: Check. Moments: Check. Mayhem: Check.)

I rarely take the whole weekend off and between playing catch up there and figuring out the car situation I haven't had much time to put my notes and thoughts on paper coming out of that show, let alone review video from last Saturday's SLAM event... As much as I want it out NOW, the WORST thing that could happen is CTWE posting video from April's Bricco-Mania to their YouTube page because then I would get NOTHING done.

Expect an audio review of the show before seeing a print version, ya'heard?

So... That being said. Look for a LOADED podcast this weekend (SundaySundaySUNDAY!) featuring our review of the IYFW event, thoughts on the World of Hurt Reunion show this Friday (if we DO end up going), a conversation with SLYCK WAGNER BROWN and the return of "The On-Air Hazing of Joey Stats"! And more!
